What Makes the 4910LR Driver’s License Scanner so Special?

With over 10 years of experience in providing 2D barcode scanners for use in patrol vehicles, the 4910LR is our 3rd-generation driver’s license scanner, and each model has improved on the last. So what exactly makes the 4910LR stand out from the competition?

Form Factor

4910LR DL scanner

The durable, compact driver’s license reader is designed for patrol vehicles. The 4910LR form factor mimics a radio microphone. This form factor is not only familiar and comfortable for users, it’s also a proven-safe means for storing the device when not in use. Retail barcode scanners are made for retail environments, industrial scanners are made for manufacturing and warehouse environments, but the 4910LR is the only scanner made specifically for the patrol vehicle environment.

Features

  • Laser-free lighting system offers an array of red LED bulbs for illumination and green LED bulbs for aiming. Red and green LED bulbs are effective and reduce night vision disruption when compared to white LED backlight systems.
  • Coiled USB interface cable minimizes tangling and retracts to stay out of the user’s way when not in use.
  • Microphone clip mounting tab is pre-installed and the included spring clip secures the scanner when bolted to a standard mic bracket provided by most console manufacturers.
  • The synthetic rubber boot that covers the scanner offers an additional layer of protection as well as providing a comfortable, ergonomic experience.

Performance

The barcode scanning performance is best in class. Featuring Honeywell Adaptus® technology, the 4910 offers lightning fast barcode scanning and more forgiving read ranges than any scanner at this price point. The highly sensitive scan engine paired with industry leading decoding technology and its superior backlight array make for easy scanning under conditions from direct sunlight to pitch black.

Versatility

In addition to capturing barcodes, the 4910LR can be used as an image capture device. Images are limited to grayscale but with software support, the 4910 can enhance electronic reports without the need for another connected device.

  • Honeywell Intelligent Signature Capture allows departments to capture a driver’s signature from a page printed with a signature box and a barcode that tells the scanner to capture the signature from that box, crop it and store it in the electronic report. Some states require the driver signature to acknowledge receipt of a citation or warning and this allows them to do so without the expense of a dedicated electronic signature capture device. I know of at least one department using the same feature to capture ink on paper fingerprints when the driver is not carrying their license. Ink on paper capture can also be used to sketch accident scenes for departments who don’t have dedicated software for doing so.
  • The 4910 can also capture megapixel quality grayscale digital photos and is used to capture images like driver’s license in frame with speed detection device, counterfeit or falsely presented driver’s license, photo of vehicle and license plate before approaching or any other scenario where a basic image can enhance electronic reports.

Compatibility

The 4910LR can be configured to work with any software that supports DL barcode input. We work with leading mobile enforcement software companies, and will support your software provider when needed.

Here’s what some New York State Officers and Troopers have said about the 4910LR:

“Click. Done” – NY Police Officer
“Wow, it scanned already! Can I do it this way?” – NY Police Officer (using the 4910LR for the first time)
“The old scanners can’t read the new licenses, this one can!” – Officer, NY

4910 License Readers have been deployed in over 40 states across the US to improve accuracy and efficiency in electronic citations, warnings and accident reports.
