Victoria’s Secret and Mobile Point of Sale (mPOS)

With the holiday season right upon us, I couldn’t help but want to get a jump start on my shopping. Nothing stresses me out more than the looks of the mall parking lot a few days before Christmas. With that in mind and all the decorations that started popping up, I couldn’t help but be in the ‘shopping spirit’.

Stop 1
I made a few returns and a few purchases (we all know how that goes).

Stop 2
My second stop was Victoria’s Secret – and if you’re like me – it’s a crowded disaster you want to avoid on a Saturday afternoon. I knew exactly what I wanted (and didn’t want to be in the store any longer than I had to) and moved my way over to checkout.

There it was: 5 lines and each line went back to the middle of the store.  Who wants to wait that long!? Not me.

Victoria’s Secret Checkout Process

A very nice sales associate came up to me noticing I only had one item. “Are you paying with debit or credit?”  I never have cash, so my reply was, “Yes I am!” She led me to the front of the store with a small standing checkout station. But this station didn’t have a cash register, electric cords, large screens, and everything else that goes along with a typical checkout experience.

  • The associate scanned my new comfy ‘Pink’ hoodie with a sled on her iPhone.
  • She then swiped my credit card with the same sled on her iPhone.
  • But wait – there’s one more step. She also used a mobile printer to print my receipt.

All it took was two pieces of equipment. It was by far the easiest checkout experience I have had there- not to mention I didn’t have to wait in those awful lines.

Are you looking to enhance your customer’s shopping experience?

Here’s some equipment to get you started just like Victoria’s Secret:

1. You need a sled that can scan barcodes and it must include a mag-stripe reader.
The Honeywell Captuvo SL42 Series can do all of these things. The Caputvo Series turns your iPhones, iPods, and iPads into mPOS devices.

2. You need a mobile printer.

Zebra iMZ Mobile PrinterA. The Zebra iMZ Series can get the job done. Here’s why:

  • Portable, lightweight, ideal for retail and customer facing point of sale.
  • Compatible with multiple operating systems including: iOS, Windows and Android.
  • Bluetooth and USB connectivity
  • Long battery life

B. Another great option for 2″ receipts would be the Star SM-S220i Mobile Printer Series, which is also compatible with Apple devices. Learn more here.

Want to know another benefit of mPOS? As my receipt was printing, I saw another associate using the iPhone sled to look up stock of an item for a customer- right on the spot. How nice is it for the associate to not have to ‘run in the back’ to check stock, and the customer can get an answer instantly.

Victoria’s Secret is definitely using mPOS to their advantage, and let me tell you, it makes customers happy and saves everyone time!
