My husband and I have been great friends with another couple for years.
Last year, this couple – let’s call them “Bob” and “Betty” – did one of the most amazing things…ever!
They took in FIVE foster children, siblings ranging from infancy through 8 years old.
I think it goes without saying that Bob and Betty’s lives have completely changed.
Now, instead of going out on Friday and Saturday nights, they stay in, doing laundry and telling bedtime stories.
Instead of waking up at the last possible minute before work, they now wake up hours earlier to prepare breakfast, pack lunches and get 5 children out the door on time.
And several times a week, they give up hours of their days to supervise parental visits for the children and meet with Child Protective Services (CPS) Caseworkers.
Their level of commitment and sacrifice is nothing short of remarkable.
When I was recently speaking with Betty, she was telling me about one of the CPS caseworkers that she has worked with. Betty spoke with admiration for this particular caseworker, due to her level of love for and dedication to the children she represents, but informed me with regret, that this particular caseworker is frequently out on medical leave.
The stress of the caseworker’s job is just too much.
