In the world of smart phones, smart watches, and even smart toothbrushes (I learned such a thing existed at my dentist this morning) it was only a matter of time before technology caught up to our pets.
As I am the soon to be expecting and very proud father of a Chocolate Lab puppy, my research has taken me to new and innovative items I had no idea were even available.
While it remains to be seen if I will be one of these pet tech adopters, my eyes are now open as to what is out there and how some of these may actually be very beneficial for a pet owner.
Technology for Your Pet
Whistle GPS Pet Tracker
Designed to combat the ever elusive pet escape artist, this collar mounted GPS unit gives you an effective way to keep track of your pet should they decide to go explore the neighborhood without you. Offering a 10 day rechargeable battery life, waterproof design and smartphone app, this unit will be sure to save you lots of heartache and late nights searching for your pet should they go missing. Petnet SmartFeeder
Connecting to your home’s Wi-Fi network, this all-in-one food dispenser takes caring for your pet to a whole new level. Simply fill up the food hopper with your pet’s food of choice and you have the ability to manage, track, and dispense food to your pet whenever and wherever you are. I personally think this is great in case of emergencies where you cannot make it home on time. Instead of letting your pet go hungry, you can feed them until you have the chance to make it back, without the need to worry or rush. Learn more here.
Petcube Camera
So this one I am still on the fence about…but the pet owner who needs to check in their furry friend while they are away will certainly benefit from this device. Connecting through your home’s Wi-Fi, this small cube provides you with a wide angle camera, two-way audio and even a laser pointer to keep your pet busy while you are away. While it is always preferred to spend time in person with your pet, for those times it is not an option, I can see the appeal of this Petcube camera.
FitBark
If you are looking for a way to track your pet’s activity, look no further than the FitBark. Just like the FitBit which has vastly grown in popularity, this collar-mounted device allows you to track your pet’s activity on your smart phone through a free app. It lets you to set goals and monitor any changes in activity and even tracks the sleep pattern of your pet. Sounds like a handy tool to keep your pet happy and healthy.
iFetch
At first I was having a hard time wrapping my head around this product but I am slowly starting to see the light. iFetch is an automatic throwing device for your pet. Featuring an open top feeder, your dog simply drops their ball into the device and it will launch the ball into the air for your pet to chase and play fetch. If your pet could use a little more activity during this day, this is a fun and interactive way to do just that.
