As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, we’ve been running a trade-in promotion since April for Law Enforcement Officers to trade in their old driver’s license readers for $49.10 off of the 4910LR. This trade-in event has been so popular that we’ve extended our promotion through the end of June – and the old scanners continue to come in box after box (we now have a surplus of cardboard boxes in the office).
So what do we do with all of the old scanners? We’re in the midst of thinking of fun ways to use them rather than throw them out, but in the meantime, they all reside in…the scanner graveyard.
The pile of old scanners you see here was taken about half-way through our trade-in event, and now we have hundreds of old scanners in the graveyard. So what scanners are Law Enforcement Officers across the nation trading in for the 4910LR?
3800R: This linear scanner has been used in patrol cars, but was originally designed with a retail setting in mind. These scanners (the white ones in the graveyard) aren’t exactly made for compact environments like patrol cars, so finding a place to store or mount the scanners while they weren’t being used was a hassle. The mounting solution for many Officers? Velcro stuck to the side of the scanner.
4710LR: L-Tron’s first-generation driver’s license reader. This blast from the past dates back to 2003 – and some Officers are still using them. Although they were state-of-the-art at the time, compared to today’s driver’s license readers like the 4910LR, these dinosaurs have dated and sensitive scanning capabilities. The 4710LR has to be held at the right height and angle to work (slowly) – see for yourself in our speed test comparison video.
4810LR: L-Tron’s second-generation driver’s license reader from 2008. The 4810LR performs faster and is easier to use compared to the 4710LR, but the fact remains that it’s a tad awkward to hold and still a bit sensitive. While the 4810 has signature and image capturing abilities, even the steadiest of hands can find difficulty capturing a clear signature or image.
If you’re using driver’s license readers in your patrol car, chances are you’ve seen these types of scanners before. If you have one of these scanners (or any other driver’s license reading devices), add them to our scanner graveyard! Now’s the time to trade-in and trade-up to the 4910LR License Reader – don’t miss out on the opportunity to receive $49.10 off the 4010LR by trading in your old scanners. And during your transition over to the 4910LR, our expert support team is available to help you install and use your new license reader.
