I would consider myself to be a food enthusiast. I love to cook, bake, and I am definitely not afraid to try different types of food, well to a certain extent. I have become the master to homemade Pad Thai, as well as baking anything that involves chocolate. Now that it is the Holidays, I can’t wait to bake Holiday cookies!
A few weeks ago, a local grocery story sent out a coupon that allowed consumers to save $1.00 on ready to cook pizza. However, there was a disclaimer at the bottom of the coupon that said something along the lines of “you have to print out this coupon in order to receive the discount because we do not support mobile scanning”. This disclaimer is extremely alarming. You would think that at this point in time major grocers would have implemented high-tech solutions, such as mobility scanning.
Now, I am not just taking jabs at this local grocery story. I am sure there are many other grocery stores around the nation, even around the world that are still requiring consumers to print out the coupons. However, this method is extremely outdated, killing trees, and discouraging consumers to use coupons. I am sure paper coupons are helping at certain times, such as if you are an “extreme couponer”. However, for the average person who uses only a couple coupons at a time (i.e. just around the Holidays), printing coupons is extremely inconvenient and a waste of time, especially in this Internet of Things era where every anything can be done from some sort of digital device.
I now bet you are wondering: is there a scanner available that allows grocers to scan coupons from mobile devices? I am happy announce that yes there is!
One particular scanner is available through L-Tron’s premier partner, Honeywell scanning and mobility. The particular scanner is from the Xenon 1900 series. This scanner’s features include, but are not limited to:
- Multiple Focal Options allowing application specific scanning and improved productivity
- Remote MasterMind Software to manage all scanners within the network
- The ability to scan all barcodes at different angles
This scanner is not only convenient for coupon scanning, but it also acts a means for businesses to track their supply chain, and for the food and beverage industry to determine certain criteria including the quality of the food and if the food and/or beverage is in compliance with the regulation guidelines set forth by the Food and Drug Administration.
So why implement this high-tech solution, from the perspective of a major grocer? The answer is simple. Consumer will be more inclined to use the promotion because they do not have to waste their time printing it out. As a result, it in turn can increase you ROI, because consumers will mostly likely buy more of the product(s) that the promotion coincides with, and who doesn’t love more revenue?
We would love you hear you stories about what other industries should implement scanning devices for coupons that can be available from your mobile/digital device.
