Small. Light. Portable. Simple. These words have quickly become part of our vocabulary in an age of “can’t wait” “what’s next” and “I want it now”. For some, it’s just for convenience. For others, it’s a whole new world of efficiency when a new product comes along that seems leaps and bounds above the rest. When was the last time you picked up a pencil? Or typed in a 12-digit SKU? Hopefully it’s been a while. If not, you need to save yourself and read on…
The Xenon 1900 is Honeywell’s sixth generation of area-imaging technology and we can honestly say it does not disappoint! This device is flying off the shelves for many reasons, one of which is that it’s super fast, ultra aggressive, and durable enough for retail, healthcare, and T&L.
Is this device appropriate for your application? It is if a small form factor is important to you. The Xenon fits small hands perfectly – in fact it’s 30% smaller than previous models, which means it makes scanning and storing easy. It’s also 20% lighter than its predecessors – a sign of the times. Fewer moving parts make it a breeze from a reliability standpoint and it also carries a 5-year warranty!
This device seriously solves the most challenging issues our customers face. To name a few:
Forms fill error rate is too high. In a retail environment, accuracy is not only key to customer service, but to the bottom line. When sales associates are processing credit and loyalty program applications, there’s no room for error, and no time for hand-keyed data entry. Honeywell’s Adaptus 6.0 has an incredibly accurate scanning rate, making driver’s license scanning easy – every time.
Too many devices for a single application. In addition to the ability to scan most any barcode no matter the size or condition, the Xenon 1900 can also scan and store documents as well as images. This brings simplicity to an application like transportation & logistics because the user can process packages faster with the area imaging scanning and also take an image of damaged packages if necessary.
The housings are cracking from excessive cleaning. Two environments Honeywell had in mind when they designed the Xenon was healthcare and warehousing where the units either need to be disinfected or get excessively dirty. The constant cleaning with alcohol-based agents tends to wear down the plastic and it could lead to cracks, breaks and eventual hardware failure. Honeywell developed what they call ‘disinfectant-ready housings’ mostly targeted to the healthcare industry, but useful in other environments as well. The housing is made with a plastic that is crystalline in nature (tightly packed chains that prevent chemicals from seeping in). These optional housings will be better able to resist the effects of popular cleaning agents.
