Ribbons & Other Consumables
Ribbons are an essential part of any Thermal Transfer printer.
Ribbon materials usually fit into three categories: Wax, Wax/Resin, and Resin.
Wax ribbons are for printing on matte & semigloss paper labels.
Wax/Resin ribbons are designed to print on glossy paper and also allow for some printing onto synthetic materials (like polypropylene).
Resin ribbons are capable of printing onto even the most glossy synthetic materials. Unlike labels, which can be used with a variety of printers so long as the width & printing method matches up, ribbons are much more specific.
Most ribbons from a particular company can only be used with printers from the same company, or else some degree of effectiveness of the printer is sacrificed.
